Who are the Mudlarks?

A community of volunteers who love the lake – and look after it.

We’re a group of local swimmers, dippers and lake-lovers who look after Weston Marine Lake. We came together in December 2020 to help North Somerset Council bring the lake back into use, and to build a community around it. Everything we do is run by volunteers.

What we do

Clean-ups

We organise regular cleans of the lake and its edges to keep it a lovely place to be.

Working with the council

We keep a close relationship with North Somerset Council, who own the lake, and help plan its future.

Fundraising

From the Polar Bear Challenge to our merchandise, every penny goes back into the lake.

A friendly welcome

We run our social media, answer questions from passers-by and look after lost property.

What we’re raising money for

  • Testing the water all year round, not just in the summer
  • An underwater thermometer so you can check the temperature before you go
  • Keeping the live webcam running
  • A heated, weatherproof housing for the lake’s defibrillator
  • Small improvements that make the lake easier and safer for everyone

Meet the team

The Mudlarks are Jan, Claire, Anne, Deb, Lisa, Emilia, Kate, Rachel, James and Pete – plus a wider crew of volunteers, swimmers and friends of the lake. If you see us at the water’s edge, come and say hello.

Weston Marine Lake Mudlarks CIC is a community interest company registered in England and Wales (company number 13078183).

Help keep the lake free for everyone

The Mudlarks are all volunteers. Every donation, every hour of litter-picking and every local sponsor goes straight into looking after Marine Lake – from water testing to the webcam.
