Every winter we challenge Weston to embrace the cold. It’s a friendly, non-competitive fundraiser – and all the money goes towards looking after Marine Lake.
How it works
- Complete 12 polar bear actions between 1 October and 31 March, with at least two each month.
- A polar bear action can be a swim, a dip or a cold land-based activity – anywhere outdoors, not just at the lake.
- Everyone who finishes earns the Mudlarks’ cloth swim badge.
- Share your chilly moments with #WestonPolarBearChallenge.

Stay safe in the cold
Cold water is serious. Build up gradually, never swim alone, get out before you feel you need to and warm up straight away with dry layers and a hot drink. If you have a heart condition or other health concerns, check with your doctor first.
